Sarah Payne’s Articles.

Sarah Payne is a sophomore journalism major and history minor at Ithaca College. Sarah has written for the Life and Culture section of The Ithacan, the award-winning, student run newspaper at IC. She has also published work in Freshwater Magazine.

Sarah has experience in broadcast as well, serving as a newscaster at the college’s student radio stations VIC and WICB. She hosted and investigated stories for WICB’s weekly radio show Ithaca Now. Many of Sarah’s pieces center around music and movie reviews, celebrity pop-culture, and events happening in the local Ithaca area. Sarah also serves on the E-Board of WICB.

In 2023, Sarah assisted with the creation and development of the debut season of an investigative podcast, Ithaca Unsheltered; Sarah and fellow research partners analyzed the housing market in Ithaca.

Before arriving at Ithaca, Sarah wrote for and worked as assistant editor for her local newspaper The Lampion, based in Sarah’s hometown of Fairport, NY. While writing for The Lampion, she wrote about pop culture events, and she wrote her first investigative piece on crypto currency.

While working as an editor Sarah has become vastly familiar with balancing multiple stories at once. She is proficient with editing with Adobe Premiere and Audacity. Much of Sarah’s experience is in the realm of audio recording and she has worked with lavalier microphones and Sony broadcast cameras. She also has experience interviewing people for her stories.

Sarah is interested in utilizing her skills to become a radio broadcast journalist and to create long-form journalism as she finds those mediums to be most effective in expanding on topics she is passionate about. Sarah aspires to write more event converge and profile pieces using her interview prowess and editing experience.
